Ways We Drive Ourselves Crazy, #237

It’s the little things in life that can really freak us out.

I’m the editor of an anthology that is currently open for submission. It has been open for about three weeks, although I had started spreading the word before that. As of this writing, there have been four submissions. Two are great and I will be happy to publish them. One was good, but has been withdrawn (for reasons I can totally appreciate). The other didn’t engage with the theme of the anthology, so I had to reject it.

And I despair: At this rate, we’ll never be able to fill the anthology!

Amazing Stories spoiled me. In the first two days after we opened for submissions, we received 300 stories. I wasn’t expecting that level of enthusiasm for my first anthology, but, yeah, I was hoping. Aside from the fact that so many writers wanted to be associated with the historical magazine, I should also note that there were no specifications for submissions to Amazing Stories, where the anthology has a very specific theme. The situations are not really comparable.

And there are still over two months before the deadline for the anthology. Anything is possible. I just have to stop making myself crazy and let it happen…
