For the longest time, new articles on Les Pages aux Folles were published on Tuesday, basically after the Web Goddess and I had gone out to see a movie. Since the beginning, they have been dated on the following Sunday. Why the discrepancy? I wanted a bit of a buffer to ensure that if there was a problem,if I wasn’t able to finish writing a piece for whatever reason, I could post the update later than usual but still within the official timeframe; if I had to post on Thursday or Friday, it would still be in time for the official Sunday publication date.
When COVID hit, we stopped going out to movies. This didn’t have to change anything, but, for reasons that are now obscure to me, I started posting the week’s new articles on Mondays. This now strikes me as impractical: publishing almost a week before the official date negates one of the strengths of web publishing: topicality. It now also strikes me as just weird.
So, starting last week, I began publishing new articles on Thursdays. This is likely enough of a buffer to allow me to make the official deadline on weeks when I’m not at my best while allowing for a greater topicality.
Did you need to know this? Probably not. But I felt like saying it, and isn’t that what a personal blog is all about?
