Well, Well, Well, What Do We Have Here?

When I started Les Pages aux Folles in September, 2002, the idea of what a writer’s page on the World Wide Web should contain had not been set; this left me free to do whatever I wanted to. What I wanted to do was develop a space that I could use as a creative playground, a space where I could follow my muse and write whatever I wanted to without regard to markets.

It turns out that this is not what typical authors’ pages on the web do. Rather than be a vehicle for creation, they are a vehicle for personal comment and promotion. As such, they contain a lot of features which Les Pages aux Folles doesn’t have…or, at least, didn’t until recently. Over the last couple of years, I have added a biographical page and a page of links to where people can buy my work, two staples of the typical author’s web page. The main feature it lacked was a blog…until now.

The Les Pages aux Folles blog, will be a space for me to do all of things a typical blog does for writers: I will discuss my writing process, notify fans of upcoming publications and appearances, and comment upon whatever in the news or my environment has my attention. I will try to contribute to the blog at least three times a week, but that is aspirational; we’ll see what life has in store for me.

To be clear, Les Pages aux Folles will still contain weekly writing with a heavy dose of political and social satire. It’s just that, as of the 20th anniversary, it will become a true hybrid of creative and personal/promotional space.

Enjoy.
