Why, The Possibility Of New Olympic Events Alone…!
Tourism Vancouver President Rick Antonson is worried that the coverage of the Pickton murder trial will result in a drop of tourism for the city. As long as people aren’t traveling to Vancouver for a convention of streetwalkers, madams and prostitutes, I don’t see that they have anything to worry about, although Antonson probably understands the psychology of leisure better than I do.
He doesn’t understand marketing, though, or he would see the bodies of as many as 49 dead prostitutes as a casket opening rather than a casket closing. The city should sponsor tours of the Downtown Eastside, pointing out where each of the victims plied her trade before being snatched off the streets. Or, how about putting a luxury hotel on the farm in Port Coquitlam where Robert Pickton is alleged to have committed his gruesome murders?
With any luck, Vancouver could replace Kosovo as the hot spot for Xtreme Travel!

Vivre Le Quebec Dorme!
Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Liberal leader Stephane Dion denounced French presidential candidate Segolene Royal for saying that France and Quebec have shared values, including “sovereignty and Quebec’s freedom.”
Then, they quickly moved away from each other, saying, “Oooh!” and “Yuck!” and dusted off their suit jackets as if they had brushed up against something unclean.

Star Str*ck
You know what the real obscenity is?
Fucking w*r.
I mean, the same people who tell you that it’s alright to b*y*n*t somebody in the head, tell you it’s not alright to give somebody head. You can k*ck *ass, but you can’t take it up the ass. You can carpet b*mb, but you can’t carpet munch. You can p*n*tr*t* an enemy’s d*f*ns*v* position, but you can’t penetrate your partner in any position.
I’m sorry, but when I think about this, I just want to p*nch somebody in the bl**…err, no, I mean, bloody face!

Pretty Funny Stuff, Too, From What We Hear
Art Buchwald, who died last week at the age of 81, was best known for being the man who sued Paramount Pictures, claiming that Eddie Murphy had stolen the idea for the movie Coming To America from him. Although he won the case, he got no monetary award because the studio claimed that, even though the film had grossed over $400 million, it was still losing money; this exposed the unusual accounting practices of the film industry to public scrutiny.
Oh, and he wrote some stuff, too.

Things Would Have Been Much Simpler For All Involved If He Had Just Blown Up A Building
Mrs. Eliza Flindarts writes: “Maher Arar has never been tried for a crime, much less been convicted of one. Not only that, but he was cleared of any connection to terrorists by a Canadian commission. Given this, why is his name still on the American no-fly list?”
Good question, Mrs. Flindarts. The American reasoning goes something like this:
1. Arar is not a terrorist.
2. This is highly embarrassing to the United States, which sent him to be tortured for a year in Syria, opening the question of how committed it is to the rule of law.
3. When the American war effort is embarrassed, the terrorists win.
4. Arar is a terrorist.

A Hard Obit To Break
A month before he died, famed Canadian weatherman Percy Saltzman posted disparaging remarks about his wives and children on his Web site, as well as saying that he enjoyed looking at the bodies of naked women. This need not tarnish his reputation, however; they just have to get Peter O’Toole to play him in the movie of his life.

“Vengeance Is Mine!” Sayeth The Minister Of Defense
“When the “Taliban or Al Qaeda”came out of Afghanistan, they attacked the twin towers and in those twin towers, “25 Canadians were killed”,” stated Canadian Defense Minister Gordon O’Connor. ““The previous government” and this government will not allow Canadians to be killed without retribution.”
What does “retribution” mean? According to O’Connor, it’s not punishment: “What it means is, if our country is attacked, we are not going to stand blandly by and not do anything. “I don’t believe the Liberal government would have committed us to Afghanistan had there not been Canadians killed.””

Not To Mention Higher Taxes For Al Gore
CEOS of some of the largest corporations in America held a press conference to demand the government act on climate change. The energy companies want stiffer rules imposed on the chemical companies. The chemical companies want legislation to raise the emission standards of the automobile industry. The automobile industry wants higher fines for the coal burning power plants of the energy companies.
And, they all want the costs to be passed on to the consumer.
