So, I spent the first few hours completing the first draft of a new novella, “Land of Wonders.” It’s a kind of surreal urban fantasy with absurdist tendencies. From the title, you might guess that it’s an homage to one of my favourite books of my youth, which, it’s true, it started out as, but it has already outgrown its inspiration. The three novellas that will follow (to complete a book-length project) should be a blast.
To celebrate, I spent the rest of the day in a torpid stupor. Or – and I’m sure you can see this one coming – a torpor. What? You thought I was going to go with stupid? Naah – too obvious. I couldn’t concentrate on much, so I spent the time looking through and closing tabs on my browser. It’s something that I probably should have done long ago, but I don’t often get into a stupid torpor. Or, as I like to call it…a Ralph. (It’s that obvious thing again.)
Tomorrow, I will give it a polish and send it out to a potential publisher. Novellas are strange things: there are many markets for short stories and novels, but novellas not so much. However, last night I was searching through market lists and found not one, not two, but four that bought novellas. Gotta strike while the four-iron is hot.
