Technically, my birthday isn’t for a week and a half, but the universe decided to give me some presents today, and who am I to argue?
It started with the delivery of a box full of copies of Brave New Girls 7: Tales of Girls Who Engineer and Explore. While it is only available for preorder, contributors can get copies early, and believe me, I was thrilled to take advantage!
For those of you who have avoided my million previous references to the series: Brave New Girls is an annual anthology (interrupted for a couple of years because of Covid) of short stories with a very specific brief: the antagonist of each story must be a teenage girl, and she must use one of the STEM areas of research to solve the problem the story poses for her. Proceeds of the sales of each volume go to a fund that sponsors girls going into college to study one of the STEM areas.
This volume contains my short story “Girls Rule the Cyberpunk World!” It is the second part of a triptych that started with “Girls Rule the Steampunk World!” in the previous volume, and, all being well, will conclude with “Girls Rule the Solarpunk World!” in a future volume.
I’ve read most of the previous anthologies, which are full of fun and science, and can highly recommend them for adults as well as their daughters (and forward-thinking sons). It’s a worthy cause that I am thrilled to be a part of. Happy (pre-)birthday to me!
