One of the things I discovered while I was editing Amazing Stories magazine was that I enjoy working with other people’s words almost as much as I do my own. I loved the process of sifting through submissions and finding gems. I (mostly) loved working with writers to make their perfect stories just that much more perfect. And I took great pride in each issue as it came out.
A few months after I left Amazing Stories, I realized I missed the process. Mired in depression soon after, there wasn’t much I could do about it (I was barely keeping up with my own writing). At the beginning of 2023, though, the depression broke, and one of the things I promised myself was that I would seek out opportunities to edit anthologies to keep my hand in the editing game.
Well.
By the end of January, I had verbal agreement from three different publishers to edit three differently themed anthologies, and I’m starting to hustle for a fourth. There are no guarantees any of them will happen, of course, but there are no guarantees that a big rock won’t fall from the sky and crush me tomorrow, either.
Watch this space. (For news of the anthologies, I mean. Not the big rock falling thing. I…probably wouldn’t be posting for a long time after something like that…)
